An international bottler with operations in Mexico, Argentina, Peru, and Chile embarked on an ambitious SAP Ariba Procurement Content implementation project to improve its procurement and supply chain processes across the region. However, they faced a series of significant challenges that threatened the success of the project.

Identified issues for migrating to SAP Ariba Procurement Content

  • Duplicate records: The bottler had multiple systems in each country, which led to duplicate records of suppliers and materials in its database. This created confusion and made it difficult to accurately identify the suppliers and materials used in its operations.
  • Lack of standardization: The data from the suppliers and materials were in different formats and had differences in the layout, which made it difficult to integrate and migrate them to the new SAP Ariba Procurement Content system.
  • Inadequate identification: The lack of proper identification of vendor records and materials led to the loss of valuable information and the difficulty in efficiently tracking and managing supplies throughout the entire supply chain.

Data Quality and Master Data solution implemented

The bottler sought the help of a provider specializing in data management and information quality. Our company designed a solution architecture that addressed the challenges posed by the client and enabled a successful implementation. SAP Ariba Procurement Content.

Due to our experience in similar cases, we developed a library of business rules for the data quality processes, which we were able to reuse to create an executable that would reduce the project costs. This development was delivered to the client for them to perform periodic executions and prevent data degradation.

Our work processes focused on identifying, deduplicating, and profiling vendor and material records. We conducted multiple iterations to ensure the quality of the data without increasing the project costs.

Completed processes

  • Data profiling: Through advanced techniques of Data analysis, By identifying patterns and anomalies in the existing database, we were able to understand the magnitude of the duplication problem and the overall quality of the data.
  • Standardization: We transform the data into uniform and standardized formats to facilitate its integration and migration to the new system. This included the standardization of names, addresses, and other relevant information.
  • Validation and cleaning: We implemented validation processes to ensure that only accurate and valid data was included in the new database. We also conducted an exhaustive cleaning to remove outdated or irrelevant data.
  • Creation of unique records: Using replication techniques, we created unique and well-identified records for each provider and material, which allowed us to have a clean and reliable database.

Results and benefits of the quality project

The successful implementation of our solutions enabled the bottler to have a high-quality Master Data Database for suppliers and materials, with a total of 150,000 supplier records and 500,000 material records.

A data quality of 90% was achieved, which meant a drastic reduction in risks and deviations during the data loading in SAP Ariba Procurement Content. With a standardized and approved database, the bottling company was able to manage its procurement and supply chain processes more efficiently, improving productivity and reducing operational costs.

Furthermore, the client benefited by avoiding the acquisition of expensive data quality tools, thanks to our ability to implement effective solutions using our own processes and expertise.

In short, our focus on data quality and standardization resulted in a successful implementation of SAP Ariba Procurement Content in multiple countries in Latin America, providing the bottling company with the solid foundation they needed to improve their operations and achieve their business goals more efficiently and effectively.
